How to use play4.you

Everything you can do on play4.you, step by step: watching, reading and listening, paying, publishing your own work, and moving USDC into and out of your wallet.

Getting started

play4.you is a place to watch videos, read newspapers, magazines and books, listen to audiobooks, and buy games. The start of everything is free. To carry on, you pay the person who made it, a few cents at a time. There is no subscription.

You do not need an account to look around. You only sign in when you want to pay for something or publish your own work.

  1. Open the site. Go to play4.you in any browser, on a phone, tablet or computer. The front page shows videos, newspapers and magazines, books, and games, each with its own search and price filter.
  2. Sign in with your email. Press "Connect wallet" at the top of the page, type your email address and press "Sign in with email". We email you a code. Type it in and press "Verify and sign in".
  3. Your wallet is made for you. The first time you sign in, a wallet is created for you inside your browser. There is no app to install and no seed phrase to write down. Sign in with the same email on any device and you get the same wallet back.
  4. Already have a Solana wallet? In the sign-in window, press "Advanced" to connect a wallet you already use, such as Phantom or Solflare, instead of using an email.
  • On a phone you can add play4.you to your home screen and open it like an app.

Paying for something

Payments on play4.you are in USDC, a digital dollar: one USDC is worth one US dollar. You pay once for each video, article, book or audiobook, and it is yours from then on.

You never pay network fees. We cover them on every payment, so you do not need any other coin.

  1. Start for free. Open anything and start watching, reading or listening. When you reach the end of the free part, the page shows the price and a button to unlock the rest.
  2. Pay just this once. Press the pay button, for example "Pay 0.03 USDC for this video". It is a one-off payment and nothing else is approved.
  3. Or approve once, then unlock instantly. Below the pay button you can choose a spending cap, an amount you are happy for us to charge without asking again. After that, everything you unlock is paid with no extra taps, until the cap is used up. Your USDC stays in your own wallet until you unlock something, and you can revoke the cap at any time.
  4. Or pre-pay some credit. You can also top up pre-paid credit from your wallet. Credit unlocks things with no confirmation at all.
  5. Not enough USDC? If your wallet is short, the page offers to add USDC. See the section "Getting USDC into your wallet".
  • What you have bought stays unlocked when you sign in again, on any device, with the same email or wallet.

Videos

Every video starts free. Short videos are free all the way through, and creators can make any video free.

  1. Find a video. The front page lists videos, most watched first. Use the search box in the videos section, or the price filter beside it, to narrow them down.
  2. Watch the free part. Open a video and press play. The first part of a paid video, about the first 30 percent, is free to watch.
  3. Unlock the rest. When the free part ends, pay the price shown to keep watching. See "Paying for something".
  4. Upload your own video. Press "Provide" at the top, then "Video upload". The first time, pick a creator name and sign once. This is the name viewers see.
  5. Fill in the upload form. Choose the video file. MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV and WebM all work. Add a thumbnail, a title, an optional description and at least one category. Then set a price in USDC, or tick the box to make it free.
  6. Keep the tab open. Keep the page open until the upload finishes. The video is then prepared for streaming, and appears on the site when it is ready.
  • Videos of 30 seconds or less are always free.
  • Videos of 10 minutes or less can cost at most 3 cents.
  • You can change a video’s price or thumbnail, or delete it, from your profile.

Newspapers and magazines

The reading section holds newspaper and magazine articles and independent writing. The opening of every article is free.

  1. Find something to read. Press "Enjoy" at the top, then "Newspapers" or "Magazines". Choose whether to browse by where a piece is from or by what it is about, type three letters, and pick from the list that appears.
  2. Read, then unlock. Open an article. The first tenth is free. To read the rest, pay the price shown at the end of the free part.
  3. Publish a piece. Press "Provide", then "Publish Newspapers / Magazines", and sign in if you have not. An email address is enough.
  4. Fill in the form. Give it a headline, and optionally the publication it ran in and a standfirst, the short line under the headline. Choose a country and up to six categories. Add a cover image if you have one. Set a price, or tick the box to make it free. Then write the article, or paste it from your editor, and publish.
  • To edit or delete a piece later, open your profile and press "Edit or delete" under it.

Books

Books are read in the browser, chapter by chapter, on any device. The first pages of every book are free.

  1. Find a book. Press "Enjoy", then "Books", or use the books section of the front page.
  2. Start reading. Open a book and start reading the free sample. Tap the edge of the page to turn it, and the middle to show the controls. "Aa" changes the text size, the font and the colours. There is a chapter list too.
  3. Unlock the whole book. At the end of the sample, pay the price shown to read every chapter. The book opens where you left off, on every device you sign in on.
  4. Publish a book. Press "Provide", then "Publish Books". Upload an EPUB, PDF, Word or plain text file of up to 100 megabytes, or paste the whole text in. EPUB works best. A PDF needs real text in it: a scan will not work.
  5. Describe it and price it. Add the title, the author, a description, up to six genres and the language, and a cover if you have one. Set the price to unlock the rest, or make it free. Then choose how much is free to read, from 5 to 20 percent of the pages.
  6. Publish. After you publish, the book takes a minute or two to prepare before it can be read. Chapters are found from headings such as "Chapter 1".
  • Your file is stored privately. Readers get the chapters in the reader, never the file itself.

Audiobooks

A book on play4.you can also have an audiobook, narrated by an AI voice. Listening may be included with the ebook, free, or priced on its own, and some books also sell the MP3 to download.

  1. Listen. Open a book that has an audiobook and press "Listen" on its page. If listening has its own price, pay it first.
  2. Pick up where you stopped. The player remembers your place on every device. Press "Resume" to carry on, or choose a chapter from the list.
  3. Download the MP3. If the author offers the download, buy it on the book’s page. Buying the download also lets you listen on the site.
  4. Narrate your own book. When you publish a book, tick "Also generate audiobook". Choose a voice and a quality, and describe the narration style if you like. The form shows an approximate cost and how long it will take.
  5. Approve the voice. You can ask for a short preview of the first chapter first, so the whole book is narrated only after you approve the voice.
  6. Set the audio prices. Choose whether listening on the site is included with the ebook, free to everyone, or has its own price, and whether the MP3 download is not offered, free, or has its own price.
  7. Wait for it. The ebook goes live straight away. The narration runs in the background, usually 20 to 90 minutes depending on length. Follow its progress on the book’s page.

Games

The games store works like Steam: each game has a page with screenshots, a description and the platforms it runs on. You pay the developer once, in USDC, and download it.

  1. Find a game. Press "Enjoy", then "Games". Browse the featured games, or search, pick a genre, and filter by price.
  2. Buy it. Open a game and press the buy button in the box under the screenshots. It works like paying for anything else on play4.you. Free games just show a "Download" button.
  3. Download it. Once the game is yours, press "Download". The download starts straight away. Come back to the game’s page to download it again at any time, on any device you sign in on.
  4. Sell your own game. Press "Provide", then "Sell Games". Upload the game as a zip, 7z, rar, exe, msi, dmg, pkg, apk, AppImage, deb or tar.gz file, up to 5 gigabytes, and keep the page open until it finishes.
  5. Fill in the store page. Add the title, the developer, a short description, the longer "About this game", up to four genres, the platforms it runs on and any system requirements. Add a wide cover image and up to eight screenshots. Set a price, or make it free.
  6. Wait for review. Press "Submit for review". Because people download and run games, every new game, and every new file for a game, is checked by an admin before it goes on sale. You can see and download it yourself in the meantime.
  • Your game file is stored privately. Buyers get a download link that works for ten minutes, and can get a new one whenever they like.
  • You receive 80 percent of every sale. Your profile shows how many people downloaded each game and what it earned.

Your wallet

Your play4.you wallet is a Solana wallet. It is yours, not ours: you can take its key to any other wallet app at any time.

  1. Open your account. Press your name or email at the top of the page, then "Account".
  2. Your wallet address. Your wallet address is the long code under "Wallet address". Press "Copy" to copy it. This is what you give someone, or an exchange, to send you USDC.
  3. Your balances. "USDC on Solana" is the money in your wallet. "Pre-paid credit" is what you have topped up to unlock things with no confirmation. If you approved a spending cap, "Spending cap left" shows how much of it remains.
  4. Export your key. Press "Export private key" to see your wallet’s key. It is shown on a page this site cannot read. Paste it into a wallet app such as Phantom or Solflare to use the same wallet there.
  • Never share your private key with anyone. Whoever has it controls your money. play4.you will never ask you for it.

Getting USDC into your wallet

To pay for things you need USDC on the Solana network in your play4.you wallet. You do not need SOL or any other coin for fees.

  1. Open "Add USDC". Go to your account and press "Add USDC". It opens a window where you can buy USDC with a card, where that is available in your country, or see your address to transfer USDC in.
  2. From an exchange. On an exchange such as Coinbase, Kraken or Binance, choose to withdraw USDC. Paste your play4.you wallet address, and choose Solana as the network. Check the address and the network, then confirm.
  3. From another wallet. In a wallet app such as Phantom or Solflare, send USDC to your play4.you wallet address.
  4. Check it arrived. Transfers on Solana usually arrive within a minute. Your "USDC on Solana" balance on the account page shows it.
  • Only send USDC, and only on the Solana network. USDC sent on another network, such as Ethereum, or a different coin, will not show up and may be lost.

Sending USDC out of your wallet

Your USDC is yours to move whenever you like. You send it from a wallet app, using your exported key.

  1. Export your key. Go to your account and press "Export private key". Copy the key.
  2. Import it into a wallet app. Install a Solana wallet app such as Phantom or Solflare, choose to import an existing wallet with a private key, and paste the key. You will see the same wallet and the same USDC.
  3. Add a little SOL for fees. Outside play4.you you pay the Solana network fee yourself, which is a fraction of a cent, in SOL. Put a small amount of SOL in the wallet first.
  4. Send. In the wallet app, choose USDC, press "Send", paste the address you are sending to, enter the amount and confirm.
  5. To cash out to a bank. Send the USDC to your account at an exchange, using its USDC deposit address on the Solana network. Then sell it for your currency and withdraw to your bank from the exchange.
  • Always check the receiving address, and that it accepts USDC on Solana. Payments on a blockchain cannot be reversed.

Getting paid as a creator

When someone pays for your video, article, book or audiobook, you receive 80 percent of the price, in USDC, in your wallet.

  1. Payouts are automatic. There is nothing to claim and no minimum. Your share is sent to your wallet within a minute or so of each sale.
  2. See what you have earned. Open your profile from the menu under your name. "Earnings" shows your total. Under each video, article and book you can see its views or reads, how many were paid, and what it has earned. A book also shows its listens and downloads.
  3. Spend it or move it. Your earnings are ordinary USDC in your wallet. Use them to pay for things on play4.you, or send them out as described in "Sending USDC out of your wallet".
